How We Transformed an Older Home in Sydney’s Inner West
When we first walked through the home, we saw the potential — high ceilings, charming features, and plenty of room to work with. But we also spotted challenges that needed thoughtful solutions:
Limited Space in the Kitchen Design.
The original plans for folding windows didn’t leave enough room to make them work. Instead of compromising the client’s vision, Darren and Mitch reimagined the design, cutting into the stone out the back to create a bespoke seat. Not only did this solve the space issue, but it also added a unique feature to the home.
Building on a Narrow Block.
The narrow property and proximity to neighbouring homes required creative construction approaches. One boundary wall needed to be a fire wall, which meant we couldn’t encroach on the neighbours’ property. Thanks to great communication and cooperation with the neighbours, we temporarily installed scaffolding on their side, completing the work efficiently without a hitch.
Maximising Natural Light.
Narrow spaces often feel dark and confined, so we incorporated open stair risers to let light flow between levels. Skylights, bifold windows, and thoughtful positioning of rooms ensured the home felt bright and spacious.
